Liverpool legend Graeme Souness is a big fan of two of the Reds’ signings, but is concerned that ’s team is still ‘not quite right’ despite the new arrivals.
The former Liverpool captain and manager is full of praise for and , with the former especially making an impressive impact at his new club after arriving during the transfer window.
However, the Scot is not convinced by another signing in Wataru Endo, who was a shock arrival late in the window from Stuttgart.
The Japan captain has been brought in to replace Fabinho in the holding midfield role after the Brazilian’s departure for Saudi Arabia. However, he certainly wasn’t first choice after failed moves for Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.
Souness thinks Endo is a gamble and is not convinced that the balance in midfield is the right one at the minute.
‘I like Szoboszlai and I am a big fan of Mac Allister. With Endo, we will wait and see,’ Souness said, via the . ‘Getting good reviews playing in the Bundesliga doesn’t mean you will be a success in the , which is very demanding and the intensity is greater there than anywhere else. Let’s see how he deals with that.
‘The fact they offered over £100m for Caicedo tells you he [Klopp] sees that area as it needs strengthening. The way I see Liverpool right now is they have enough goals in the team, the defence is more than good enough, the keeper is more than good enough but the blend he is going to have to use in midfield is not quite right.
‘I would like to see them get another central defender as Matip can’t keep himself fit and another central midfielder. Endo, with the money they paid, would suggest he is a squad player.’
