Fast forward 12 months and the winners will be… well, according to the ridiculously early betting market will be making a successful defence of their newly acquired silverware.

The Champions League trophy is the jewel in the crown and manager will be already working overtime to ensure it doesn’t slip out of his grasp.

Completing the Treble by defeating Inter Milan 1-0 in Istanbul left when won the same three trophies.

in the eyes of many, especially as his success was based on a formidable core of players who rose from the youth team ranks to sporting immortality.

City fans will point out their side dominate all and sundry, basking in up to 80 per cent possession and scoring at will.

They rack up six goals or more multiple times each season and are superior to the opposition in every department, and every statistic.

David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes v Erling Haaland, and Phil Foden?

Tough one. but it’s ever so close.

City have been a class above the elite this season and injuries, suspensions, physical and mental tiredness allied with a few unfortunate bounces of the ball could easy derail them next season.

But if they stay lucky, disciplined and prepared could they complete the clean sweep and win the Quadruple?

The unlikely team who stopped them in their Carabao Cup tracks this season were Nathan Jones’ Southampton – yes, really – with Tottenham beating United in 1999 on their way to lifting the League Cup by defeating Leicester at Wembley.

City are 2/1 with multiple firms to win the 2024 Champions League and they are no better than 8/11 with Betway to collect a fourth Premier League title in a row.

The same firm make them 7/2 to keep both hands firmly on the FA Cup and 4/1 to wrestle the Carabao Cup away from United.

Tot that little lot up and it’s a 115/1 accumulator.

Of course, it’s way too much to ask for City to remain that strong, that consistent throughout all of next season… isn’t it?

• Enzo Maresca, one of Pep Guardiola’s assistant coaches at Manchester City is wanted by both Celtic and Leicester to be their next manager. The Italian is as short as 4/7 with Sky Bet for the Parkhead job and if he plumps for Glasgow the Foxes may turn to former Fulham and Bournemouth boss Scott Parker, who is 2/1 with Bet Victor.

• The relentless Iga Swiatek is 4/1 with bet365 to with victory at Wimbledon but a word of warning – she’s never been further than the fourth round on the SW19 grass.
