suggests Arsenal have ‘drawn the right conclusions’ regarding their transfer business despite their absence from the Champions League.

The 2016/17 campaign was the last time the Gunners were in Europe’s premier competition, but they are in the driving seat to qualify for the competition this year.

Mikel Arteta’s side currently occupy fourth spot, while Manchester United are down in sixth, and thus facing the possibility of missing out on Champions League football for next season.

Arsenal, meanwhile, carried out a comprehensive rebuild of their squad last summer, spending around £160million on the likes of , and .

Rangnick, who is in interim charge of the Red Devils but set to take up a consultancy role at the end of the campaign, feels the Gunners have taken the right approach in terms of their recruitment.

‘In the end it’s about recruitment, having the right players, signing the right players at the right time, not signing wrong players at the wrong time,’ said Rangnick.

‘It’s pretty easy in football, it’s about having a recruitment process. What kind of players do we really need for which kind of football? What do we stand for? And then have the best possible manager to fit into that. It would be better both financially and also sportingly, to finish fourth.

‘Everyone would like to play in the Champions League every year, but other clubs have had that experience as well.

‘If you look at Arsenal, for example, they have not played in the Champions League for a couple of years and they’ve drawn the right conclusions at the club and this is possible.’
