Paul Parker has backed his former side Manchester United to sign midfielder N’Golo Kante this summer, who he believes would be an excellent signing for the Red Devils.
reported last week that Kane has emerged as a target for United, with incoming manager Erik ten Hag keen to add the Frenchman to his ranks.
The 31-year-old still has a year left on his Chelsea contract and has made 40 appearances for the Blues this season, so there is little suggestion that they want to get rid of him, especially during the turbulent time they are going through regarding their ownership.
However, Parker would love to see the midfielder at Old Trafford, believing he would bring a lot to a team that has lacked his ball-winning skills.
‘He (Kante) will improve ’s midfield a hundred per cent,’ Parker told . ‘Because he can go and get the ball out of people without always fouling them.
‘He doesn’t go around looking to hurt people and when he does get the ball, he keeps the ball.
The move doesn’t seem especially likely at this stage, but Parker fancies United’s chances of pulling off the deal.
He added: ‘Kante has won numerous medals, made it in big, big games and for him to come from Leicester to Chelsea to Manchester United would be an incredible journey.
‘Is it possible? I think you look at maybe what’s happening at Chelsea and it might be possible.
‘Normally I’m quite negative about things when they’re said like that. But this one is possible and I like it. I like the idea of it.’
Ten Hag is also, reportedly, keen to bring in his old Ajax star Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona in what would be a huge move for the Red Devils.
Parker would love to see De Jong link up with Kane, and with United outcast Donny van de Beek, who is likely to have a vastly more significant role at Old Trafford under Ten Hag than he had under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.
‘It would be interesting with a midfield where we’re talking about Kante, we’re talking (Frenkie) de Jong, we’re talking van de Beek,’ said Parker.
‘Is it going to be, on the eye, the most intimidating midfield, and you got workaholics in there. You got people who are going to keep the ball and dominate and it will improve Manchester United’s midfield a hundred per cent.
‘They won’t be a bottom-six midfield anymore.’
Kante was asked about his future recently and sounded very much like he plans to be at Chelsea next season, telling Sky Sports: ‘The only thing is sure that I have one more year and the only thing is to finish this season. I’ll think about it in the right time.’
