Manchester United bosses disagree over Mason Greenwood decision

are yet to make a decision on the future of , with the club torn over how to deal with the forward.

The striker was not part of the group of Manchester United players that returned for today.

Those not involved in internationals at the end of last season – such as Anthony Martial, , Raphael Varane and Dean Henderson – trained for the first time today.

But Greenwood, who is still being paid a full wage, remains suspended by the club.

That’s because the club are yet to conclude an internal investigation into charges of domestic abuse and assault, which were dropped in February.

Though Greenwood has no legal case to argue, the striker has been dropped by Nike and United’s commercial department are said to be against reintegrating the forward as it reflects poorly on the club.

Individuals in United’s women team are also said to be against Greenwood’s return.

But from a sporting perspective, United are reluctant to sack Greenwood.

The striker’s value before the incident that saw him arrested in January 2022 was around £100m.

Erik ten Hag admires Greenwood’s ability and would ideally like to have the striker in his squad, though he’s not involved with the investigation.

United also feel they have a duty of care for a player that joined the club at the age of six.

The club have explored sending Greenwood on loan this season as a means of testing the public’s reaction to the striker resuming his career.

But the say a decision will be made by Richard Arnold and Joel Glazer before the start of the Premier League season in early August.
