have entered the race to sign Hoffenheim defender David Raum.

The German starred in the Bundesliga last season, playing 33 times and making the most number of crosses into the box in Europe’s top five leagues.

It was thought that Borussia Dortmund were in pole position to sign the 24-year-old, who is valued at £34million, but it has emerged the German club need to sell before they can buy.

According to , United are among several Premier League clubs – the others believed to be and Newcastle – who are interested in Raum.

The report goes on to say that a move abroad is likely for the left-back due to Dortmund’s financial difficulties.

Hoffenheim are keen to sell Raum, whose deal runs out in 2026, with the club having failed to qualify for Europe and are conscious of a release clause which becomes active in the player’s contract next year.

Erik ten Hag is looking to bolster his defence this summer with the Red Devils having conceded 57 goals last season – the worst record in the Premier League’s top seven.

Since Patrice Evra left the club, the left-back position has been problematic for United with Luke Shaw struggling last term before losing his starting place to Alex Telles.

However, Ten Hag may decide against spending heavily on Raum this summer, with the Dutchman reportedly targeting new signings through the spine of the team.

The Manchester giants have been linked with moves for Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong and Christian Eriksen, but the former Tottenham midfielder is said to be keen on a return to his old club, while a move for Ten Hag’s compatriot is making slow progress.
