fear could miss the rest of the season following the defender’s latest injury setback.

The England international was surprisingly included in ’s starting line-up for last weekend’s game against .

but passed a late fitness test ahead of the game at Kenilworth Road.

The 28-year-old limped off just two minutes into the second-half, however, and United are now concerned they will be without their first choice left-back for the remainder of the campaign.

Ten Hag was unsure of the severity of Shaw’s injury in the immediate aftermath of a narrow win which kept United’s top four hopes alive.

‘I can’t tell,’ the Dutchman told  Radio Five Live. ‘We have to wait minimum until tomorrow to see what’s going on.

‘It’s clear, when you come off, it doesn’t look great.’

Tests, however, have indicated, according to the, that Shaw is set for a lengthy lay-off that could jeapordise his chances of being included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad ahead of this summer’s European Championships.

Shaw played a key role for the Three Lions and scored in the final three years ago, but is certain to absent for the upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.

Southgate will no doubt use those games to take a look at possible alternatives, including the likes of Kieran Trippier and Ben Chilwell, as well as the latter’s Chelsea teammate, Levi Colwill, who has featured regularly at left-back this season.

Ten Hag, by contrast, has no such luxury with few genuine options open to him to replace one of United’s most consistent performers in recent years.

Tyrell Malacia remains absent due to a long-term injury, while Lisandro Martinez, who operated at left-back for Ten Hag at Ajax, is recovering from a knee injury he picked up in the recent win over West Ham.

Victor Lindelof was forced to deputise against Luton, while summer signing Sofyan Amrabat has filled in a problem position for United earlier this season.
