Tottenham 0-2 Arsenal
Arsenal tightened their grip on the Premier League title race by extending their lead to eight points after outclassing neighbours Tottenham in a one-sided north derby.
The Gunners were gifted their first goal by Hugo Lloris and wrapped up the points well before half-time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium thanks to a superb finish from .
Lloris nearly gifted the Gunners an early goal when he lost possession in his own area. found Eddie Nketiah at the far post but the French goalkeeper redeemed himself with a fine save.
But after making an error with his feet, Lloris then made a mistake with his hands to give Arsenal the lead.
Bukayo Saka powered into the Spurs area in the 13th minute and his cross took a slight deflection off Ryan Sessegnon. Lloris should have at least kept the ball out but parried it into the net.
Heung-min Son was denied a swift equaliser when he ran onto a lovely pass from Sessegnon, only to be foiled by Ramsdale but despite the rare opportunity Arsenal were the dominant side.
Lloris managed to turn away a long-range effort from Odegaard but he was beaten by a thunderous effort from Thomas Partey which crashed against a post with the keeper well beaten.
A second goal was on the cards and Saka then found Odegaard, unmarked 25 yards out, and he found the bottom corner with a sweet low finish nine minutes before the interval.
Tottenham were poor but Ramsdale still needed to be alert to keep out Harry Kane’s glancing header from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s centre with the last meaningful action of the half.
Spurs were better at the start of the second half with Dejan Kulusevski curling a shot just over and Ramsdale making two great saves to keep out shots from Kane and Sessegnon.
Nketiah had a chance to increase the pain but his first touch was poor allowing Lloris to block his shot as the Gunners successfully soaked up the Tottenham pressure. With time running out, Antonio Conte sent on Richarlison, Yves Bissouma and Ivan Perisic in an attempt to shake things up but the Gunners continued to look comfortable.
When their defence was breached, the reliable Ramsdale was there to prevent Son and Richarlison finding the net and making sure there was no way back for the frustrated hosts.
