Mauricio Pochettino explains why Christopher Nkunku is benched for Luton vs Chelsea

insists he will continue to rotate his Chelsea side as drops to the bench for their clash with Luton Town on Saturday.

Chelsea travel to Kenilworth Road in Saturday’s early kick-off and Pochettino has made four changes to the team which started in Wednesday’s 2-1 win against at Stamford Bridge.

Thiago Silva replaces Benoit Badiashile in central defence with the France international out of the squad due to a minor injury.

In attack, Mykhailo Mudryk, Ian Maatsen and Nkunku all drop to the bench with Noni Madueke, Armando Broja and Cole Palmer, who returns from suspension, all starting.

Raheem Sterling also returns from a one-game ban but is named alongside Nkunku on the bench.


Luton Town: Kaminski, Mengi, Osho, Bell, Kabore, Sambi Lokonga, Barkley, Doughty, Townsend, Brown, Adebayo.

Subs: Andersen, Ogbene, Morris, Woodrow, Chong, Mpanzu, Clark, Krul, Giles.

Chelsea: Petrovic, Gusto, Disasi, Thiago Silva, Colwill, Gallagher, Caicedo, Palmer, Jackson, Madueke, Broja.

Subs: Bettinelli, Bergstrom, Gilchrist, Sterling, Fernandez, Mudryk, Nkunku, Maatsen, Matos.

When asked about the changes for ’s clash with , Pochettino told TNT Sport: ‘I think it’s to manage the form of the player,

‘Thiago [Silva] is an experienced player that can help always but in this type of game more.

‘In a busy period we need to give possibilities to all the players because we need to add fresh players to the team.

‘We’re always thinking in the present, trying to win the game, I think this combination will make us good to compete.

‘I think the circumstances we have all the players need to feel they can help, either in the starting XI or coming from the bench.

‘For sure, we are ready, you are going to see in the next few games, many, many changes.’
