will likely have a tough time on his hands if he is to once again.
The west Londoners are in a state of disarray following a under owner which has left them languishing in the bottom half of the table.
And with and both enjoying impressive seasons and and expected to strengthen ahead of the next campaign, Chelsea fans will be keen to see Pochettino improve on his record of 23 wins from 82 games against the so-called ‘Big Six’ if he is to turn their fortunes around.
Let’s breakdown how he has fared against the Premier League big boys across his spells with Southampton, and PSG.
Arsenal
Played: 15 Won: 4 Drawn: 7 Lost: 4
As Tottenham manager, games didn’t get much bigger than the North London Derby.
Given Spurs’ dominance over their fierce rivals during his spell in charge, Pochettino will likely feel disappointed that his head-to-head record with the Gunners isn’t that bit better with only three wins from 13 encounters.
However, he did finish ahead of Arsenal in all but one of his five full seasons in the hot seat – ironically the title chasing campaign of 2015/16 – whilst he also never lost a home game against them.
Pochettino managed a win and a draw against Arsenal in his two games with Southampton.
Chelsea
Played: 17 Won: 6 Drawn: 2 Lost: 9
Pochettino has registered six wins against his new employers – shipping 35 goals in the process.
The Argentine suffered two semi-final heartbreaks with Spurs at the hands of Chelsea, losing 4-2 at Wembley in the 2017 FA Cup before being knocked out on penalties in the 2019 Carabao Cup.
The Blues also got the better of Tottenham in the 2015 Carabao Cup final, winning 2-0 courtesy of goals from John Terry and Diego Costa.
But arguably the most infamous game Pochettino has taken charge of against Chelsea is the the ‘Battle of the Bridge’ Premier League clash in 2016, which saw the home side recover from 2-0 down to clinch a draw and end Tottenham’s chances of winning the title.
Liverpool
Played: 16 Won: 3 Drawn: 4 Lost: 9
Chelsea fans will hope Pochettino can improve on his poor record against Jurgen Klopp’s men when he takes the reigns at Stamford Bridge.
He only mustered three wins from 16 meetings with Liverpool – with two of those coming when he was the manager of Southampton.
Pochettino’s solo victory against the Reds with Spurs was the 4-1 Premier League win at Wembley in October 2017.
The low point of his reign with Tottenham was losing the Champions League final to Liverpool, with goals from Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi sealing the 2-0 win in Madrid.
Manchester City
Played: 20 Won: 6 Drawn: 3 Lost: 11
Pochettino won just under a third of his fixtures against Manchester City – perhaps a slightly underwhelming record given the brilliance of his Spurs side and the superstars he had at his disposal with PSG.
Two of the wins arrived before Pep Guardiola took charge of City, although Pochettino did emerge victorious in their first Premier League meeting in October 2016 in a statement 2-0 win at White Hart Lane.
Pochettino did guide Spurs to a scarcely believable 4-4 aggregate win on away goals in the quarter-finals of the Champions League in 2019.
However, he was unable to repeat the trick with PSG in the semi-finals in 2021, losing both legs as City progressed to the final to play Chelsea.
Manchester United
Played: 14 Won: 4 Drawn: 3 Lost: 7
Southampton drew 1-1 home and away with Manchester United in Pochettino’s only full season with the south coast club in 2013/14.
The last of Pochettino’s four wins over United with Spurs was in August 2018, with the 3-0 scoreline arriving in the final months of Jose Mourinho’s increasingly unhappy reign at Old Trafford.
However, that victory came just four months after United had beaten Spurs 2-1 in the semi-finals of the FA Cup at Wembley.
Tottenham also beat United in the final ever game at White Hart Lane with goals from Victor Wanyama and Harry Kane helping them to a 2-1 win.
