Mikel Arteta has dropped and appears to have tasked Granit Xhaka with filling at left-back for ’s clash against Brighton on Saturday.
With first-choice left-back Kieran Tierney expected to miss the rest of the campaign due to a knee injury, Arteta chose to start Tavares against Crystal Palace on Monday night.
But the defender produced an error-strewn display and was substituted at half-time as the Gunners fell to a 3-0 defeat to Patrick Vieira’s side.
In his previous appearance for the north side – against Nottingham Forest in the – Tavares lasted just 35 minutes before being taken off.
Arteta has opted to drop the Portuguese for Saturday’s meeting with Brighton at the Emirates Stadium.
It looks as if midfielder Granit Xhaka will line up at left-back, with the Switzerland international having covered in the position previously.
Albert Sambi Lokonga comes in for the injured Thomas Partey in the middle of the park, to partner up with Emile Smith Rowe and Martin Odegaard.
Gabriel Martinelli is deployed on the left, with Alexandre Lacazette up front and Bukayo Saka on the right.
The Gunners will be hoping to bounce back from their defeat to Palace and put the pressure back on Tottenham in the race for the top four.
