Napoli are interested in signing star Jurrien Timber as a replacement for target Kim Min-Jae this summer.

Having played a key role in Napoli’s Serie A success this season

United can take advantage of a release clause that allows the 26-year-old to leave Naples for €48million (£45m).

Reports in Italy claim that clause becomes active for the first 15 days of July, despite the efforts of Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis to remove the clause by offering the player new terms.

With Harry Maguire expected to leave Old Trafford this summer having lost his place in the starting XI, Kim could be viewed as an ideal replacement.

Should Napoli lose the South Korea international, Gazzetta dello Sport report the club view Timber as a possible replacement having been impressed with the Dutchman’s progress this season.

Liverpool are also interested in signing the 22-year-old, who has indicated he is ready to leave Ajax this summer.

He recently told De Telegraaf: ‘A transfer is getting closer and closer, so to speak. There is a lot of concrete interest and I have made agreements with Ajax.

‘Last year Ajax asked me to stay for at least one more season and to extend my contract. As a club boy I did that with love and after the season we will review the situation.’

He added: ‘At the Dutch national team, I often talk to boys who play football abroad. I want to take that step someday. But when that is, you will eventually hear and it will happen in consultation with Ajax.

‘I’m still here anyway and I’m in no hurry. The focus is now on the cup final and the remainder of the competition.’
