will have to break the bank if they want to sign top target Victor Osimhen this summer, with Napoli reportedly wanting an astronomical fee for the striker.
Signing a new centre-forward was a priority for Erik ten Hag in the January transfer window, especially following the departure of .
But with little to no money following an expensive spending spree last summer, United were forced to settle on a loan deal for .
Thankfully the goals of have compensated the lack of a world-class No.9, but come this summer, you can expect Ten Hag to be in the market for one.
Osimhen is one player that has been linked to the Red Devils and many believe that the Nigeria international is perfectly suited to Ten Hag’s style of football.
The 24-year-old has scored 14 goals and made four assists in 16 Serie A matches so far this season to help Napoli go 13 points clear at the top of the table.
As one of the most in form strikers in the world, he has attracted plenty of attention with United and PSG said to be leading the race for his signature.
However, any club who wants Osimhen will have to go all out as report that Napoli want at least €100million (£89.7m) for their talisman.
While this fee will seem extreme to some, it only makes sense for the Italian side given that they splashed £67m to sign the player from Lille just two-and-a-half years ago.
If United were to meet Napoli’s asking price, it would make Osimhen the club’s second most expensive signing of all-time behind Paul Pogba who returned to Old Trafford from Juventus in 2016 for £94m.
Osimhen, whose contract expires in 2025, is not the only striker Ten Hag is looking at, with the report adding that Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic and Red Bull Salzburg’s Benjamin Sesko are also under consideration.
In the meantime, United are preparing to host Crystal Palace on Saturday as they aim to move up to third in the Premier League ahead of Newcastle.
Osimhen and Napoli meanwhile, will look to extend their lead at the top of Serie A when they travel to strugglers Spezia on Sunday.
