Former midfielder labelled the 3-0 defeat to on Saturday ’embarrassing’ and said the whole season has been similar.

Dominic Solanke gave the Cherries an early lead at Old Trafford, with Philip Billing and Marcos Senesi scoring in the second half to complete an incredible victory for the away side.

The Red Devils may have dominated possession but it was hardly a smash and grab from Bournemouth, who could have won by more.

Hargreaves felt the reaction of the fans at Old Trafford said it all, but pointed out that it was notan isolated incident, with seven defeats in 16 Premier League games representative of an ’embarrassing’ campaign so far.

‘Listen to the boos, look at all the open seats,’ Hargreaves told Productions.

‘The fans have spoken. The performance was embarrassing and it has been like that all season.

‘You have to praise a team [Bournemouth] that plays the right way with good attacking players. They deserve the praise. They played exceptionally today.’

Manchester United legend Gary Neville may not have watched the 3pm kick-off in person, but catching the highlights later, he reckons that the Red Devils were fortunate to only lose by three.

‘I’ve just watched the highlights on the @SkySports website and 3-0 looks like a good result!’ Neville posted on X.

Defeat leaves Erik ten Hag’s side sixth in the top flight, with just 18 goals scored in 16 matches, and he admitted after the latest loss that his players are not up to it at the highest level.

Manchester United have to beat Bayern Munich at Old Trafford on Tuesday night to have any chance of making the Champions League knockout stages and few would be confident of them doing that after Saturday’s performance.

‘As a squad, we are not good enough to be consistent,’ Ten Hag said.

‘I’m annoyed, disappointed, definitely. I expected something different. The way we started was no good. It was poor.’
