Ralf Rangnick advises Manchester United board to hire Paul Mitchell to oversee club’s recruitment

interim manager has endorsed Paul Mitchell to the club’s heirachy.

Mitchell, 40, made his name at Tottenham where he was influential in the signings of , Dele Alli, Heung-Min Son and Kieran Trippier.

That earned him a move to RB Leipzig as the club’s head of recruitment, where he established a relationship with Rangnick.

Mitchell is now with Monaco but he’s expected to leave the club at the end of the season and he was spotted with Rangnick at a recent United academy match.

The German has been critical of United’s recruitment in recent years and he says new manager Erik ten Hag could sign up to ten players in the summer.

But Rangnick believes United need to be smarter with their transfer strategy and he’s reportedly ‘endorsed’ Mitchell to United’s board, according to the .

Mitchell is known to be one of the smoothest operators in football and he revolutionised Leipzig’s work in the market, identifying the likes of Emile Smith Rowe and Christopher Nkunku.

United got rid of two of their top scouts in Marcel Bout and Jim Lawlor last week, leaving a gap for a new recruit to come in.

Rangnick will take up a two-year consultancy role at the end of the season but it’s unclear what the German will specifically be dealing with.
