Thibaut Courtois is rooting for Inter Milan to beat to the because he wants to lift the trophy.

Inter take on City in the UCL final in Istanbul on 10th June, but will go into the match as firm underdogs with the Citizens looking unstoppable and on course for the treble.

’s men have already won the Premier League, their fifth title in six seasons, and are favoured to defeat arch-rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final on 3rd June.

But Inter cannot be underestimated having beaten AC Milan, Benfica and Porto so far in the competition, as well as knocking Barcelona out in the group stages.

And the Serie A giants will have the support of former Chelsea goalkeeper Courtois, who was named man of the match in last year’s Champions League final as Real Madrid beat Liverpool in Paris.

City knocked Real out of this year’s contest in the semi-finals in style, but Courtois’ support for Inter is not motivated by revenge, but rather his friendship with striker Lukaku who has spent the season on loan at the San Siro from Chelsea.

Though the pair crossed paths at Stamford Bridge from 2011 to 2014, they never actually played together for the Blues but have been starred together as international teammates with Belgium for over a decade.

Another notable Belgian will also be featuring in the final: City’s attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, but that hasn’t changed Courtois’ allegiance.

The 31-year-old told Prime Video: ‘I hope Romelu can win it. Obviously it’s him against Kevin, but I’ve known Romelu for a bit longer.’

Lukaku returned to Inter this season after his return to Chelsea, in a club record transfer, went badly wrong, but this has been another tricky campaign for the 30-year-old.

He has struggled with many injury issues and a series of high-profile misses saw him become a laughing stock as Belgium were knocked out of the 2022 World Cup in the group stage.

Thankfully for Inter, he has looked back to his best in the last few weeks, scoring seven goals and making three assists in his last seven appearances, and though he is yet to start a Champions League game he has an impressive record of three goals in just 144 minutes.
