believes a number of players will be ‘alarmed’ at Stamford Bridge and says one must already be growing frustrated.

The Blues have endured a turbulent season on and off the pitch and Ferdinand believes several players will be concerned about the state of the club.

Chelsea have slipped into the bottom-half of the this season and underwhelmed in the and cup competitions.

American businessman Todd Boehly has already sacked two managers, with after replacing Thomas Tuchel at the start of the campaign.

Ferdinand believes a number of Chelsea players will be concerned by developments at Stamford Bridge and has suggested will be baffled by the chaos.

Badiashile has started eight games for Chelsea since his move from Monaco but was unable to be included in the club’s Champions League squad.

‘I think the volume of players at Chelsea could be alarming for some of the players there,’ Ferdinand said on BT Sport.

‘A lot of those players won’t know where they stand and many of them will be surplus to requirements come the summer.

‘Looking at [Benoit] Badiashile, he’s sitting there, a young centre-back who can’t get into the Champions League squad.

‘He’s thinking, “I should be playing.” He’s probably sitting there looking at some of the players in front of him and going, “Hold on a minute, how have I been overlooked here?”

‘That will be happening continuously throughout the squad and that’s not a good place to be.’

Chelsea legend Didier Drogba slammed his former club as they were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid on Tuesday night and said a bloated squad helps nobody.

‘It is not the same club any more,’ Drogba told Canal+. ‘I don’t recognise my club. There is a new owner and a new vision.

‘A dressing room with 30 players is difficult to manage for the coach, whoever he is.

‘We try to compare with what was done under the Abramovich era, where there were many acquisitions of players, but the choices were very intelligent.

‘Bringing in players like Petr Cech, Andriy Shevchenko, Hernan Crespo, Michael Essien, Didier Drogba, Florent Malouda, and I go on.

‘It was to win titles and they are players who already have some experience. Here the strategy is different, they bet on young players.

‘I think they certainly lack charismatic players and leaders. It needs players who take responsibility.’
