Roy Keane could be set to leave his role at SkySports after signalling his interest in taking the vacant managerial role at Hibernian.
The legend has been out of management for a decade since leaving Ipswich.
He’s had assistant roles with , Nottingham Forest and Republic of Ireland in that time but in recent years he’s been an outspoken pundit for SkySports.
However, Keane has regularly spoken about his desire to return to management and he was on the brink of returning to earlier this season, only for talks to collapse over the length of contract offered to him by the Black Cats.
But Keane maintains he has something to offer in management and the Sun claim he’s informed Hibs that he’s interested in taking their vacant role.
The Edinburgh side sacked Shaun Maloney – a former team-mate of Keane’s – on the weekend after just 120 days in the job.
Maloney had replaced Jack Ross in December but the side have won just one of their last five matches, leaving them in seventh.
Hibs owner Ron Gordon admits his decision to appoint Maloney backfired and he’ll look to a more experienced manager to replace him.
‘We need to take risks from time to time but that one was a little too ambitious on our part,’ said Gordon.
‘It could have gone the other way. Shaun could have done a fantastic job and we could be celebrating a terrific season.
‘It didn’t pan out, that’s the beauty and challenge of football. How much risk do we want to take? I don’t know.
‘We’ll cast our net wider in terms of recruitment of coaches and players and the kind of football we want to play.
‘We don’t want to limit ourselves. We have a list of potentials which has a little bit of everything, but many are from the UK.’
