has had a really disappointing first season with Paris Saint-Germain, but the veteran defender still believes he can play for ‘four or five more years at the top level’ of the game.
The 36-year-old made the headline-grabbing switch from to PSG last summer but things have not gone to plan thanks to injury problems.
The Spain legend has made just six Ligue 1 appearances, only three of which have been in a starting XI, and he has managed to get sent off in one of those appearances.
Ramos has not appeared at all in the for the Parisiens, sitting on the bench at in the group stage, but not venturing onto the pitch.
Such has been the underwhelming nature of Ramos’ debut season – hampered by calf and thigh injuries – that he has been linked with a summer exit, but the Spaniard plans to play out his contract which expires in 2023 and then play for years past then at the highest level.
‘I would like to play between four and five more years at the top level and then live another experience,’ Ramos told Prime.
‘I have two years at PSG, we will try to do three and then we’ll see. As long as my physical condition holds up, I think I can keep my mind focused.
‘I prefer to play in the best team in the world than to be the best player because in the end football is a collective sport and it is about winning as a team.
‘Before being the best in the world, I prefer to play world championships, Champions League. And for everything, you always need the work of the team.’
Ramos has returned to fitness of late, starting in a 6-1 win over Clermont last week, his first Ligue 1 start since January.
PSG are 12 points clear at the top of Ligue 1 so despite fitness issues, Ramos is set to get his hands on the league trophy in his first year in France.
