The Lionesses are gunning for glory Down Under with their campaign now underway.

are one of the favourites to get their hands on the biggest prize in the game following the 12 months ago.

And given the expectation surrounding ’s side, World Cup fever has well and truly swept the nation with millions tuning in to support the team despite the early starts.

And one of the ways fans have been cheering on England is with their unofficial World Cup song, ‘Call Me a Lioness’, which includes former Spice Girl .

Let’s take a look at the story behind England’s unofficial anthem for Australia and New Zealand 2023 and, of course, those all important lyrics so you can sing along at home.

Who performs England’s World Cup song?

The song is performed by the ‘Hope FC’ choir, which alongside Mel C includes Wolf Alice lead singer Ellie Roswell and Self Esteem.

The rest of the lineup features Alex Greenwood, Marika Hackman, Rachel Chinouriri, Shura, Jasmine Jethwa, Rose Gray and Highlyy.

Songwriter Glen Roberts, who has cited the Euro 2022 victory as the inspiration behind the tune, co-wrote it alongside producer Joel Pott and singer-songwriter Olivia Dean.

Dean said: ‘We wanted to make a song that gives girls a soundtrack to their pride of the Lionesses and of being a woman, and to unite everyone in that pride.

‘Whenever I hear Call Me A Lioness I think about being in a beer garden singing it at the top of my lungs with my friends.’

The song has been released as an unofficial anthem with the FA having stopped commissioning music following the 2014 men’s World Cup in Brazil.

All profits from the track will go towards supporting grassroots and women’s football.

The list of those benefiting includes Football Beyond Borders, Manchester Laces, Street Soccer London and Girls United.

What are the lyrics?

England, history makers
Record breakers
Game changers

Woke up in the night, I was dreaming
Of the red and the white, I could see it
Thousands in the stands, all waving their hands
Ready for the beautiful game

A Russo back heel, the crowd is chanting
When Kelly dropped the mic, started dancing
Toone had the finish, we were in it to win it
Life would never be the same

Now I’m dreaming once again

Call me a lioness
I wear it on my chest
Won’t stop till we’re holding up the cup
‘Cause winning once was not enough
Singing la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
We’re bringing it home again
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
We’re bringing it home again

Going down under, putting ten past the keeper
It’s easy to believe when you got a Sarina
In ’19 oh, what could have been
We only went and threw it away

But now we’re dreaming once again

Call me a lioness
I wear it on my chest
Won’t stop till we’re holding up the cup
‘Cause winning once was not enough
Singing la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
We’re bringing it home again
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
We’re bringing it home again

It always starts with hope
Who knows where it ends
We can’t pretend to know
But we’ll keep dreaming once again
Singing la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
We’re bringing it home again
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
We’re bringing it home again
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

Call me a lioness
We’re bringing it home again
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
Call me a lioness
We’re bringing it home again
Bringing it home
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
Call me a lioness
We’re bringing it home again
Bringing it home
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
Call me a lioness
Bringing it home again
