has lavished praise on England after their perfect display in their 8-0 thrashing of Norway at the 2022 European Championships.

The Lionesses booked their place in the quarter-finals of the competition as group winners with a majestic display at the Brighton Community Stadium.

After putting six past the stunned opposition inside the first-half, goal number seven saw them break their own tournament record for most goals scored in a single game.

The sensational Beth Mead added further gloss by tapping home her third and England’s eighth in the final 10 minutes of the contest.

England secured a narrow 1-0 win over Austria in their opening group game last Wednesday where they were guilty of missing chances to widen the score line.

But they were at their ruthless best on Monday night with Arsenal legend Wright hailing the side for finding their lethal touch when it mattered.

‘That is as good as it gets. A team tactically and physically executing a game plan,’ Wright told BBC Sport.

‘We are talking about a team that, yes they missed a lot of chances, but once they sort that out they are going to do that to a team.

‘They are capable of doing that and today it was brilliant. Fantastic performance from England. I knew that was coming, and it came.

‘England can do this to a team. Today it was brilliant, a fantastic performance from England.’

Mead, who scored the pick of the goals with a stunning solo effort in the first-half, said: ‘I can’t put it into words. I’m just loving being here, loving being part of this team and loving every minute.

‘It’s an incredible feeling to feel how I do right now. I don’t think I even dreamt of this. I’m just so happy I got the goals to help the team.

‘I haven’t even thought about it [the Golden Boot]. I just want to get the goals to help us win.

‘The girls need to enjoy this one. These are the moments we need to enjoy.’
