insists he is ‘super happy’ with ’s transfer business this summer but admits he is missing the calming presence of club legend .
The Blues are in a period of transition following a change of ownership which saw American businessman Todd Boehly lead a consortium which bought the Premier League giants from Roman Abramovich.
Chelsea have subsequently endured a chaotic summer which has seen a number of high-profile players leave the club, including the likes of , Andreas Christensen and Timo Werner.
Speculation remains rife over the futures of several other club stalwarts, while sourcing replacements has been less than straightforward with Boehly overseeing a scattergun approach to Chelsea’s transfer dealings.
Tuchel cut a frustrated figure during the Blues’ pre-season tour of America and he was less than satisfied with a disjointed performance on Saturday, as Chelsea began their Premier League campaign with a less than convincing 1-0 win at Everton.
The German, however, insists he is more than satisfied with the players Boehly has managed to recruit, including the likes of Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly, but confessed he has struggled without the calming presence of Cech, who left his role as the club’s technical director following the change of regime.
‘I still think we are in transition with a new ownership,’ Tuchel told Soccer AM when asked to sum up Chelsea’s eventful pre-season.
‘Petr Cech out who was also such a big key factor, also for me in the season in the building here in Cobham, speaking with everybody and the staff and being a huge support for me.
‘He’s not here any more so there are some changes. We are positive but we are a bit in transition so we are excited but it comes pretty early (the season).’
Tuchel also revealed he found it impossible to switch off during the close season with so many issues, particularly related to player recruitment, to sort out.
He said: ‘Normally I switch off, I train myself to switch off but this season it was impossible. New ownership, new communication, transfer period.
‘We lost key players. It was not a summer like the last years and it felt a lot shorter than it actually was.’
Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand is among many high-profile pundits to have suggested that all is not well at Chelsea, but Tuchel maintains he is more than satisfied with the work that has been done to provide him with a squad capable of challenging Manchester City and Liverpool this season.
He added: ‘I’m not happy, I’m super happy. These two guys are fantastic guys and fantastic football players.
‘They are exactly what we need so this is brilliant to have Kalidou in defence and Raheem in offence is top, top signings.’
