have agreed a deal to sign flop from RB Leipzig on loan with an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season.
The deal has been quickly thrashed out by the two clubs, with the forward also linked to , and he is set to undergo a medical as soon as possible.
Werner is reportedly very keen to work under Ange Postecoglou and revitalise his form so he can seal a place in the Germany squad for Euro 2024.
The move was all but confirmed on Saturday after the player was left out of Leipzig’s squad for their friendly against St. Gallen, with manager Marco Rose saying: ‘He wants to go on loan, we wish him all the best.
‘He needs to play as he wants to go to Euro 2024 and we keep our fingers crossed for him.’
An agreement has been reached with Tottenham set to pay 100% of the 27-year-old’s wages until the end of the season.
But most interestingly, an option to buy Werner for around €15-20million (£13-17m) has also been included in the deal.
Postecoglou was keen to add to his forward line this transfer window, especially with captain and leading goalscorer Son Heung-min away at the Asian Cup for the next month.
Ironically, Werner could well make his debut against the other club that wanted to sign him, with Spurs travelling to Old Trafford to take on United on 14th January.
Werner established himself as one of the most highly-rated forwards at RB Leipzig before joining Chelsea in 2020 for £47.5m.
He won the Champions League with the Blues, but his time at Stamford Bridge wasn’t a success, scoring just 23 goals in 89 games before returning to the Bundesliga side in 2022.
This season has been a disaster for the player so far however, with just two goals and an assist in 14 appearances, but perhaps a switch to north London can change his fortunes.
