When did Luton Town last play in the Premier League?
Technically speaking, Luton Town have never played in the Premier League.
They were relegated from Division One in the 1991/92 campaign – the last season before the Premier League was founded.
This brought to an end their ten year stay in the top flight, following on from various spells in the top division across the 20th century.
Just four years later, the club were in the third tier, where they stayed until relegation at the end of the 2000/01 season.
Having worked their way back up to the , they suffered three successive relegations from 2006/07 onwards to end up in the fifth tier National League owing to various points deductions for entering administration.
Luton returned to the Football League in 2014/15 and won promotion to the Championship in 2019/20.
They narrowly avoided relegation by three points in their first season back before cementing their league status with a 12th place finish the following year.
Luton made the play-offs courtesy of a sixth place finish last season but were they edged out by Huddersfield in the semi-finals.
Following a 1-1 draw at Kenilworth Road, the Hatters succumbed to a late Jordan Rhodes strike eight minutes from time in the second leg in Yorkshire.
Nathan Jones, who had managed the club between 2016 and 2019 in his first spell in charge before being reappointed in 2020, left for the second time earlier this season to join Southampton.
Edwards himself started this season at fierce rivals Watford before being sacked by the Hornets, with the 40-year old was appointed on a three-and-a-half year contract in November 2022.
When is the Championship play-off final?
The Championship play-off final will take place on Saturday, May 27 at 4.45pm.
Should the game finish level after 90 minutes, extra-time and if required, penalties, will be used to determine the winner.
