Tyler has confirmed that he is a supporter of side Woking, who currently play in the fifth tier of English football.
The commentator, who was born in Chester, is also keen to point out that he does not have any biases in favour or against any Premier League team despite disgruntled fans voicing their opinions otherwise online.
Tyler : ‘I don’t do social media and this is one of the reasons why.
‘They all think I support somebody. I support Woking and I am quite happy to say that. I first went to Woking when I was eight years old and it was the first football I had ever seen. They’ve always been my team.’
Tyler even referred to his infamous commentary of Sergio Aguero’s dramatic title winning goal for Manchester City in 2012 to shut down suggestions he has a soft spot for .
He added: ‘How can I be a Man Utd fan when I’ve got excited about Aguero? All I do is react to the game.
‘It’s a great bonus to not have a Premier League team. I’m probably the only commentator to not have a Premier League club.
‘This thing where you have to have a Premier League team is garbage. It’s the accident of birth.
‘It’s the one thing that irks me when people say you must have a Premier League team, I absolutely, categorically don’t.’
Tyler even joined Chester as a coach under the management of Alan Dowson in 2018, before leaving the Surrey-based club in 2022.
When did Martin Tyler join Sky?
Tyler first linked up with the company when British Satellite Broadcasting merged with Sky in 1991, ahead of the .
Since then, Tyler has spearheaded Sky’s coverage of the competition as its lead commentator.
In 2003, Tyler was voted as the Premier League Commentator of The Decade by fans and a panel of experts.
His career has also seen him commentate on games for the likes of ESPN, SBS and Premier League productions.
