William Gallas believes would benefit from signing two current stars this .
Both heavyweights have endured turbulent seasons despite having made major investments in their respective squads over the course of the last two years.
Chelsea, in particular, have struggled to see returns on the vast sums of money they have spent under the ownership of Todd Boehly and his Clearlake consortium.
Only Cole Palmer, at present, has been regarded as an unqualified success with the likes of Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandes and Christopher Nkunku showing only flashes of promise.
Gallas believes the Chelsea squad would benefit from a change in policy this summer and has urged the powers that be to invest in experience over potential.
And while Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford have both dipped well below their usual standards for United this season, Gallas is confident a move to west London would revive their careers and add the leadership qualities his old side are currently missing.
Gallas told : ‘Both Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes could be good options for Chelsea. Both are quality players.
‘Bruno could definitely be the kind of midfielder who has the quality to play in the number ten role where Chelsea lack strength.
‘Chelsea are a team of young players and Bruno Fernandes has the leadership qualities to get through certain periods. He’d be a good signing if the rumours are true.’
Raheem Sterling represents one of the more experienced signings made during Boehly’s tenure but the former Manchester City star has failed to deliver consistently.
Indeed, having been jeered by his own fans during a recent FA Cup win over Leicester, he could well be on the move again in the summer.
‘Sterling’s statistics speak for themselves, when he was at Manchester City he was scoring many more goals than now he’s at Chelsea,’ said Gallas.
‘Right now, his performances are not good enough for his second season, so if you look right now his numbers are not great either. If the fans are not happy with him, then maybe that’s fair because when he was in Liverpool or Manchester he had great seasons.
‘Since he’s signed for Chelsea, he has not performed in the same way as he did before and it’s understandable if some fans want to see him leave.’
