Striker is ready to retire from football at the end of the season, but only if he wins one final trophy with AC Milan.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the 40-year-old, whose contract with Milan expires in the summer, wants to bow out of the sport on a high and add either the Serie A title or the Coppa Italia, or both, to his already stacked trophy collection.

The Rossoneri are well placed to achieve this, with the side currently top of the Italian league with just seven games to go and through to the semi-finals of the cup competition where they will face fierce local rivals Inter Milan.

Speculation surrounding Ibrahimovic’s future has increased following Sweden’s failure to qualify for the 2022 , with the country’s all-time leading goal scorer said to be happy to hang up his boots for good now that his international career is all but finished.

The Swede began his career at Malmo in 1999 and went onto play for some of the biggest clubs in the world, namely Ajax, Juventus, Inter, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and LA Galaxy, before returning to AC Milan for a second spell with the club in 2020.

One of the best strikers of his generation and one of the most famous and decorated footballers of all time, at the time of writing Ibrahimovic has scored 510 club goals in 858 games and won 31 trophies, although the Champions League has always alluded him.

Should he fail to add to that tally, it is always possible that Ibrahimović will extend his stay in Milan by another year, but although the club would be willing to do that, he would have to take a significant pay cut, reducing his €7million-a-year contract to €3m-a-year.

Milan have already started to work on replacing their talisman however, with Divock Origi, whose Liverpool contract expires in the summer, top of their wish list, although they face competition from Newcastle United to sign the Belgian striker.
