Amanda Holden’s ‘horribly brutal’ reason for divorcing Les Dennis resurfaces

A 2003 interview with Amanda Holden has resurfaced, and she admitted herself what she said was kinda ‘brutal’.

Rewind to 1995 and the judge, 52, , now 69, when the pair were 22 and 40 at the time.

But family wasn’t in their future together, and a resurfaced interview with the Mirror from 20 years ago documented Amanda’s feelings towards the presenter on their split.

The pair divorced back in 2003 after it was revealed the former Wild At Heart actor had an affair with actor Neil  while starring in ’s Happy Birthday Shakespeare.

In the resurfaced interview, Amanda explained how she really wanted children and was ‘terribly broody’ – but she didn’t fancy having them with Les. Ouch.

The presenter explained: ‘I terribly want children but I didn’t want to have them with Les.

‘That’s a horribly brutal thing to say, but when you do, you know you have to move on.’ 

Explaining what it was like to have had an affair in the spotlight six years later in 2009, she continued to The Express: ‘I found the fall from grace incredibly hard to deal with. I can’t bear not to be liked.’

She added: ‘I was a prefect at school. I never had a tattoo, got a detention or pierced my ears more than once. Then I had an affair and overnight turned into this awful person.’

This comes as Les entered the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom and was alongside his partner Nancy Xu.

Amanda Holden and Les Dennis married in 1995 when she was 22 and he was 40, and they divorced in 2003. They didn’t have any children together.

In 2000, Amanda and Neil Morrissey had a five-week affair, and the news broke in 2002, a year before she and Les officially divorced.

Amanda – who was not well-known back then – met Les when both were cast in a production of The Sound of Music at Bournemouth’s Pavilion Theatre in 1993.

After the affair the pair decided to give it another go, but it wasn’t meant to be and they officially split in 2002, and divorced in 2003.

In 2014, on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, Neil Morrissey apologised for the affair, saying: ‘I feel sorry for how emotional Les seemed to become. It was very difficult for him and for that I’m very sorry.’

Amanda went on to , Lexi, 17, and Hollie, 11.

Speaking earlier this year, .

He said: ‘We’re not in touch but I am happy that she’s happy,’ he said. ‘I can watch Britain’s Got Talent without getting angry.’

He told The Sunday Times: ‘To be honest it’s like watching a different person. Someone I’ve never met.’

Les added: ‘All the hurt that has happened has been healed.’
