The fifth season of the singing competition series is now upon us, , Jonathan Ross, Mo Gilligan, and Rita Ora returning to the judging panel.
That means that viewers have already begun frantically guessing who could be behind , which this year includes the likes of Chicken Caesar, Dippy Egg, Eiffel Tower and, of course, Rat.
After performing the Vengaboys classic Boom Boom Boom!, it appears fans of The Masked Singer UK are still none the wiser about their identity, although the theories have been rolling in.
Let’s take a look at all the clues and the judges’ stabs at unmasking Rat on The Masked Singer UK so far.
What clues are there for Rat’s identity?
From the clues package in the VT and the riddle they gave the panel, here’s what we have so far…
- Rat wears tartan and has a Scottish flag on their dungarees. Have these clues revealed their nationality?
- However, Rat appears to have a Scouse account. Are they actually Liverpudlian?
- Rat carries a toolbelt. Could they be involved in DIY and home renovation series?
- The number plate has ‘F4’ on it which Jonathan said was the computer command for copying. Could they be an impersonator?
- There was a clock shown on the VT and Rat themselves referred to time and ‘tick tock’. Could they be a social media star?
Who could Rat on The Masked Singer be?
Ronni Ancona
Jonathan was convinced that Rat’s scouse accent was a fake, while the computer command clue led him to believe the character was an impersonator.
He believed impressionist Ronni Ancona, best known for co-writing and starring in The Big Impression with Alistair McGowan, fit the bill.
The 57-year-old Last Tango in Halifax star is famed for her spot-on takes on stars including Olivia Colman and Audrey Hepburn so could Rat be her latest incarnation?
Claire Sweeney
Many of Rat’s clues suggest they are involved in the DIY world, from their tool kit to the ‘out of service’ laundrette sign.
Casting his mind back to presenters who have fronted home renovation series, guest judge Charlie Simpson became convinced Claire Sweeney is behind the mask.
Fans will remember Claire hosted the interior design show 60 Minute Makeover for a decade between 2004 and 2014.
Shirley Manson
Two key clues led Davina to suspect singer , the frontwoman of the band Garbage.
Firstly, there were several allusions to cleaning and rubbish in the clues package, and secondly Rat’s clothing implies they could be Scottish.
Plus as a global popstar, Shirley, 57, is no stranger to belting out a tune on stage…
Mel C
Clocks featured heavily in Rat’s clue package, which Mo interpreted as meaning the celebrity ‘has been around for some time.’
He also noted Teenage Kicks was playing in the background and honing in on the word ‘kicks’ assumed the star under the costume was sporty.
These two clues led him to suspect that none other than sporty spice from 90s megaband The Spice Girls – Mel C – is Rat.
