Grease’s Stockard Channing shares heartfelt tribute to late Olivia Newton-John: ‘I’ll miss her enormously’

Stockard Channing has paid tribute to the late Olivia Newton-John following the actress’s death at the age of 73. 

The actress, 78, who plays Rizzo in the 1978 musical alongside Newton-John as Sandy, revealed the qualities

She told People: ‘I don’t know if I’ve known a lovelier human being. Olivia was the essence of summer – her sunniness, her warmth and her grace are what always come to mind when I think of her.’

Channing added: ‘I will miss her enormously.’

Newton-John’s co-star John Travolta, who played Danny Zuko, also paid tribute on social media, writing: ‘My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better.

‘Your impact was incredible. I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again.

Newton-John died on Monday at her ranch in California after battling breast cancer which had metastasised. 

Her husband confirmed news of her death, telling fans in a statement: ‘Dame Olivia Newton-John (73) passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California, surrounded by family and friends. We ask that everyone please respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.

‘Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer.

‘Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer. 

‘In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in her memory to the .’

 Newton-John had first been diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992 at the age of 44, with the disease recurring on two occasions. 

She had campaigned for cancer awareness and research including opening her own centre in Melbourne which has helped thousands of patients over the past 10 years.
