has reportedly been approached to return to his former role in the noughties smash hit show Fat Friends.Â
The series followed the lives of a group of slimming club members and also featured the talk show host’s co-star .
Following the success of the concept years ago, it has now been said that the much-loved drama will return with its original stars as a film.
Reports claimed James, 45, had already been approached to reprise his role in the upcoming movie version.
Insiders suggested that the project would begin filming next year and would be a perfect tribute to the show’s late writer Kay Mello – who died aged 71, last May.
A source told : ‘James and Ruth on screen again is the reunion everyone wants, albeit not Gavin and Stacey.Â
‘The cast were all approached about filming a movie version –– an early script has been written, and is ready to go.
‘If it gets the green light, James will reprise his role as Jamie Rymer, while Ruth will play Kelly Chadwick again.
‘The film would also be a huge tribute to Kay who helped change so many of the cast’s lives.
‘They all would love to do something to thank her for her brilliance. It’s still early days but a very exciting project.’
Former cast member Gaynor Faye – who played Lauren Harris in the original series opened up about returning to her iconic role and confirmed she would be taking part.
She told Steph McGovern on her Channel 4 show Packed Lunch: ‘We’re revisiting the characters and it’s really exciting. Hopefully we’re shooting it next year.’
The series was set in Leeds before its release and was on air for the duration of four seasons that enjoyed success from 2000 until 2005.Â
James credited the show in the past and revealed he felt it was a massive catalyst for his subsequent stardom.
The star reflected on his relationship with the late writer Kay and said: ‘She changed my life when she cast me.
‘She saw something in me that no one had before that point. She gave so many people their first chances.’
