Rob Brydon has revealed that ’s personal love for Gavin & Stacey might have resulted in him getting a role in Barbie.

The Welsh actor and comedian, 58, starred as Bryn West in the comedy, which was created by and in 2007.

Gavin & Stacey eventually ran for three seasons and produced two Christmas specials – the latter of which ended on a proposal cliffhanger.

And it turns out that the trials and tribulations of the beloved characters from Barry made quite an impression on Barbie’s leading star Margot Robbie.

According to Rob, the Australian actress and producer, 33, was a ‘huge fan of Uncle Bryn’ when she sat down to watch the sitcom.

Speaking to Virgin Radio, he said: ‘I had a message a few years ago that Margot Robbie was a big Uncle Bryn fan and would I record a message for her birthday.’

He continued on to say he recorded the birthday video for her, and implied that the time he took to record it might have landed him his Barbie cameo role.

‘I think maybe this part is her way of saying thank you,’ he said, after his appearance at the film’s premiere surprised some Gavin & Stacey fans.

He also gave details about the Wolf of Wall Street actress’ special birthday video: ‘I said, “Hello Margot. I’ve loved you in all your films and I’ll tell you for why…”‘

When the pair met each other on the set of the upcoming Greta Gerwig movie, Rob says Margot thanked him, describing the interaction as ‘quite nice’.

Barbie is set for release in UK cinemas on July 21, with the Mattel toy film going up against Christopher Nolan’s nuclear science biopic Oppenheimer.

On Thursday, Margot revealed that – in true Mean Girls style.

‘So, On Wednesdays We Wear Pink was the game,’ she explained. ‘And if you didn’t wear pink there was an optional fine that would be donated to charity.’
