Rihanna has given us all a glimpse into her love life with A$AP Rocky , and she couldn’t be more loved up.
The couple have known each other for years and famously worked together on RiRi’s track Cockiness, before growing closer.
and finally went public with their romance shortly after – while managing to keep things mostly out of the limelight.
Speaking about their relationship in a candid new interview, ahead of her due date, the 34-year-old revealed that her journey – from a close friendship with the rapper, 33, to something more intimate – didn’t come easy at first.
‘People don’t get out of the friend zone very easily with me,’ she told US. ‘And I certainly took a while to get over how much I know him and how much he knows me, because we also know how much trouble we can land each other in.’
Rihanna slowly let her guard down and things between the two became more serious during the pandemic, as he became her ‘family’ in that time.
This was partly down to a low-key road trip they took in the summer of 2020, travelling together from LA to New York on a tour bus.
‘I love the simple things but also the grand adventures,’ she continued, recalling the time they spent together on the road. ‘There’s no pretentious my-brand-your-brand bulls**t, it’s just us living. I just feel like I can do any part of life by his side.
‘What I love the most about us? Transparency with everything: how we’re feeling, what our goals are, what our fears and insecurities are. The vulnerability to be able to say what you feel about each other.’
Things went to another level at the end of last year when Rihanna and A$AP learned that they would be parents for the first time.
When asked if they had been planning to start a family together, the We Found Love musician added: ‘I wouldn’t say planning. But certainly not planning against it. I don’t know when I ovulate or any of that type of s**t. We just had fun.
‘And then it was just there on the test. I didn’t waste any time. I called him inside and showed him. Then I was in the doctor’s office the next morning and our journey began.’
, the lovebirds initially chose to keep the news strictly under wraps, and didn’t even tell their closest friends of their baby joy.
Reflecting on staying quiet at the time, she admitted that this was ‘harder’ than she anticipated.
‘It was harder for me to keep it from my posse, because they’re around me, they know my habits,’ she previously told E! News.
‘They’re like, “You don’t want something to drink? You’re not smoking?” And I’m eating all the things I’m not used to eating. They know I hate sweets and I’m all of a sudden asking for cookies and donuts.
‘But finally, I just had to let it all out, and they were all shocked, of course, as the world was shocked as well.’
