The American actress, 52, uploaded a poster for the highly-anticipated film to her Instagram on Wednesday and thrilled her followers with a glimpse of the star dressed as
Showing a scary likeness to the cartoon version of the sea monster Ursula, Melissa appeared in dramatic makeup that nodded to the character’s signature blue eyeshadow and had her hair pulled back into the witch’s white updo.
Standing against a blue background emulating the sea, the costume’s tentacles can be seen towards the edge of the image and two eels frame her shoulders as she poses in the centre of the snap.
Alongside the film poster, Melissa penned a caption that read: ‘One month until I get to share this fever dream with everyone!! Eyebrows inspired by Missy McCarthy circa 1988 !!! #TheLittleMermaid in theaters May 26! [sic].’
Fans of the Bridesmaids actress praised her for her part in the film and left comments of adoration for the A-lister.
One wrote: ‘Don’t know what I’m more excited for. My favorite childhood movie being turned into live action? Or the fact the Sookie is Ursula [sic].’

Melissa chatted about her latest starring role when she appeared at CinemaCon and said: ‘It was truly such an honour to play one of Disney’s most delicious and iconic villains.
‘Ursula is dishy, she’s a conniving broad. Maybe that’s why I relate, I don’t know. But you can’t help but love her at the same time.’

Halle explained to E! News ahead of taking on the iconic character: ‘I definitely think that because I love this movie so much, and I’ve treasured it since I was a little girl, I did put a bit of pressure on myself.
‘Just because I want to deliver all of the feels that I saw when I was a little girl.’
