Ncuti Gatwa makes feelings clear over Millie Gibson’s ‘shock axe from Doctor Who’

Following reports Millie Gibson has been dropped from Doctor Who after just one series, the Time Lord himself Ncuti Gatwa has made his feelings known.

It was confirmed last year that the former Coronation Street actress, 19, would be , the companion to doctor.

She which also , but it’s now been said she won’t return for a second season, with Varada Sethu said to be her replacement.

Showrunner Russell T Davies has already written out her character, according to reports, with a source claiming that she will only be back ‘to tie up loose ends’.

An insider told : ‘Millie Gibson has all but left now and there’s a brand new companion, which is really exciting.

‘Russell is keeping things moving and isn’t letting the grass grow, that’s for sure.’

The publication adds that Millie will only make a handful of appearances across Sex Education star Ncuti’s second series as the Time Lord, airing in 2025.

The eight episodes she has already filmed air from May.

Appearing to respond to the reports though, Ncuti sent Millie some love on Instagram with a photo of them on the set of Doctor Who with the caption ‘My lil [heart emoji]’.

Meanwhile, Varada, 32, is rumoured to be joining Ncuti for this year’s Christmas special.

A source added to the publication: ‘Varada is a real gem, Russell was just blown away by her talent. The cast and crew have really warmed to her and he’s sure the fans will too.’

She’s previously starred in Doctor Foster, Star Wars spin-off Andor, and movies Jurassic World Dominion and Now You See Me 2.

When it was announced that Millie had been cast as Ruby Sunday, Ncuti Gatwa was full of praise for his future co-star.

‘She is full of talent, strength, she has a cheeky sparkle in her eye and is sharp as a razor.

‘From the moment she walked into the room she captured all of our attention with her effervescence and then solidified that attention with the sheer torque of her talent.

‘This adventure is going to be so wild and so fun, I cannot WAIT to sail the universe with Millie!’

Millie herself said she was ‘beyond honoured’ to have been given the part.

‘It is a gift of a role, and a dream come true, and I will do everything to try and fill the boots the fellow companions have travelled in before me,’ she said.

‘And what better way to do that than being by the fabulous Ncuti Gatwa’s side, I just can’t wait to get started.’
