Nick Cave admits Jeffrey Dahmer show was ‘unhealthy’ – even though he worked on it

Nick Cave has admitted the divisive series Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story was ‘unhealthy’ despite working on the drama.

The families of by the series, with some relatives claiming they only heard about the show when it dropped on the streaming platform on 21 September, 2022.

for his performance as the monster, who Ki**ed and dismembered 17 males between 1978 and 1991.

‘There’s a lot of sick people around the world, and people winning acting roles from playing killers keeps the obsession going, and this makes sick people thrive on the fame,’ said Shirley Hughes, whose deaf son was among those Ki**ed by Dahmer with his death depicted in the series.

Appearing on The Louis Theroux podcast, Cave, 65, defended his work on Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde, which also faced backlash for manipulating the facts of the film star’s life.

‘I did the soundtrack and Blonde came under scathing,’ said Cave.

‘It’s about Marilyn Monroe. It’s an extraordinary film, it’s a masterpiece and actually many filmmakers, people who actually know about film and who actually make films and can see things beyond an ideological point of view, see it as a technological masterpiece.’

He was less complementary when it came to Dahmer though.

‘For me, I’m more sympathetic towards the criticisms about Dahmer because it was family members of the victims that were coming out and it showed some perverse interest in this character that may have been unhealthy,’ he said.

Dahmer eventually became one of Netflix’s most watched titles of all time, streamed for over one billion hours worldwide.

Murphy, who created the show, insisted the relatives of Dahmer’s victims were contacted.

‘It’s something that we researched for a very long time and we, over the course of the three, three and a half years when we were really writing it, working on it, we reached out to 20 – around 20 – of the victims’ families and friends trying to get input, trying to talk to people, and not a single person responded to us,’ he said, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
