Syphon Filter, of all things, is getting trophy support on PS Plus, and other retro games are expected to follow.

Between the seemingly random drops of information and often vague wording, Sony’s handling of its has been very weird so far.

This time, the latest official news on the service – trophy support for retro PlayStation games – doesn’t even come from Sony itself, but Bend Studio.

The studio revealed the information over Twitter, where it confirmed that its PlayStation 1 stealth game Syphon Filter will have trophies you can unlock, including a platinum one.

No other retro games have been confirmed to include trophy support yet but it’s safe to assume at least some of them will, given Syphon Filter is hardly the jewel of Sony’s retro line-up.

While some games from the original PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable have been re-released on modern platforms, they’ve never received trophy support until now.

It’s a significant update and one that will be warmly welcomed by certain players. So, it beggars belief why Sony didn’t even mention it in the big update it shared recently.

Earlier this week, Sony finally shared will be included in the new Premium tier and it’s surprisingly lacking in major titles.

Sony insisted that this was but a portion of what will be included at launch, although why they’re being so coy is a mystery.

As a result it’s currently unclear if trophy support will be applied to the retro games Sony releases independently of the service.

While the big draw of the Premium tier is its library of retro games, Sony has said that some of them will become available for individual purchase. Whether or not the trophy support will remain exclusive to PS Plus is unknown.

Customers won’t have to wait much longer until they are able to reap the benefits of the service. The first selection of Asian countries will be able to access it in but a few days on Monday, May 23.

It won’t arrive in Western territories until June, however, with the UK getting it last on .
