A star who was working at the 2023 has announced that she’s pregnant a day after the tournament came to an end.
Sports presenter Kelly Somers shared the exciting news of her pregnancy in a new interview, as she looks forward to welcoming her first child with her fiancé Max, 34, later this year.
‘I’m excited that my baby is going to be born in a generation with the Lionesses as role models,’ the 32-year-old said.
Kelly continued to : ‘You see little girls playing in playgrounds and I hear of friends’ kids playing football at . They’ve made women’s football more accessible. They’ve opened people’s eyes.’
The presenter, who’s worked for broadcasters including the BBC, talkSPORT, Premier League Productions (PLP) and Optus Sport, spoke to the publication before the final took place.
The TV personality, who was representing Australian channel Optus Sports at the tournament, said at the time that whatever happened, the Lionesses have ‘just done us so proud’ with their ‘fight’.
Kelly opened up about her journey to motherhood, saying that she ‘never, ever thought’ that she would become a mum, sharing that she’s ‘had so many problems’ and now feels ‘incredibly fortunate’.
‘At my age, everyone knows someone who’s going through fertility problems or who has a bad story, and I always thought I was going to be one of those stories,’ she said.
The presenter explained that she and Max decided to start trying for a baby at the beginning of the year.
She outlined how as a female presenter working in football, she’s unsure what the reaction will be when she posts a baby bump photo on social media for the first time.
‘I always joke with Max that he goes to work without an engagement ring on his finger. No one knows what’s about to happen in his life,’ she said.
‘Whereas I have the ring and massive belly – but that’s just part of being a woman and it’s part of growing up. I’m getting to the point where I think, “I need to embrace this.”‘
Kelly and Max became engaged in December 2020, with her fiancé arranging a surprise photoshoot for the proposal near Primrose Hill in London, while she was none the wiser that he was going to pop the question.
