Complaints that Wordle is getting harder are becoming louder and louder as players insist that today’s answer is too difficult.
It’s been proven multiple times that Wordle is not getting more difficult, as all The New York Times has done since buying it is it thinks are too obscure. What’s left were chosen by the original creator last year and yet this week does seem to have a bad run of .
We won’t reveal the answer until after the ad below, but the problem is not that it’s an obscure word but that it’s unintentionally difficult to get using the normal Wordle rules.
It’s not even because there are two letters the same, which often trips people up, but simply that once you get a few of the letters it’s still very difficult to narrow down what the answer is.
The specific problem is that the answer has three common letters in the middle and two uncommon ones on either side. So while there are lots of words that have the same three middle letters it’s very hard to guess what the other two might be.
This has led to more people than usual complaining that their score streak has been broken, as they fail to get the answer in the set number of tries.
If you want to know, the answer today is… FORAY. Not a particularly obscure word but because of the way Wordle works a really hard one to get.
Wordle has around seven years of answers already programmed into it and what’s become clear as the months have gone by is that no consideration has been given as to how hard they are to guess.
That’s why some days are easy and some are hard, and there’s little correlation between how obscure a word is and how hard it is to work out.
