Everyone loves a good celebrity romance, and being linked with Rey Mysterio might be one of our favourites.
The Friends actress and WWE legend aren’t a couple you’d necessarily expect to hear about, but a National Enquirer story in 1997 quoted the masked luchador on an and suggested there could be something more.
At the time, the outlet claimed Mysterio said: ‘Jennifer is a big fan of mine and I’m a big fan of hers. She’s been to four of my matches and we’ve become good friends. She told me she loves my wrestling.’
The publication quoted the former world champion – who was with World Championship Wrestling at the time – talking about the , and how their bond developed.
‘I always wear my mask — ALWAYS!! It’s a big tradition in Mexico, my native county,’ he allegedly added. ‘But I broke tradition when I met Jennifer.
‘I actually let her see me without my mask backstage. I’ve never done that for any of my fans. She really got a kick out of it. We talked for some time and exchanged home phone numbers.’
The article claimed that Mysterio – who has been – planned to have dinner with Aniston.
The Hall of Famer was asked about the wild story during a recent appearance on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast, as the social media start brought up rumours the wrestler ‘dated’ Jennifer.
‘About a week,’ he quipped, before confirming that the Enquirer actually ‘just threw it out there’ with no basis, admitting it was ‘crazy’.
Jennifer herself has dismissed the story, insisting in 1997 that she had ‘never met a wrestler’ in her life,’ while Mysterio admitted in 2009 book Behind the Mask that he ‘still’ had a copy of the magazine, and the locker room loved teasing him over the article.
‘I have no idea what that was about or where it came from. Maybe somebody wanted to get my name out there and started the rumour,’ he wrote. ‘Anyways, I thought it was funny.
‘I even showed the story to my wife — best coming from me, no? The locker room got on me for it. “Hey, Rey, what’s up with you and Jennifer?” someone would ask. “What do you mean?” I answered. “What’s up?” They wouldn’t let it die.
‘Over the next few weeks and months they were ribbing me in all sorts of ways. I’m lucky Photoshopped pictures of me and Jennifer didn’t appear on television somewhere.’
