Liv Morgan was standing tall as Raw went off the air after getting the pin in a huge main event a week before Backlash.
The depth of the red brand’s women’s division was on display in the headline match on Monday night, as Morgan teamed up with Asuka – who – and Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair.
In a bout bringing together three high profile storylines, the trio faced off against Rhea Ripley, Becky Lynch and Sonya Deville in what ended up being a thrilling contest.
Earlier in the show, Sonya was backstage complaining to Adam Pearce about an investigation into her conduct following her actions last week as she abused her power but still lost to the EST of WWE.
He confirmed the main event and insisted she wouldn’t have any executive power for the whole night after she tried to turn the match into a No Holds Barred contest.
The match itself gave everyone – and their respective feuds – a chance to shine, with Liv earning the victory for her team after pinning Sonya.
Both the action and the talent involved here proved the strength in depth Raw has now, not least because there are two rivalries outside the title picture.
It might seem like a small detail, but it makes the world of difference seeing the division as a whole thriving creatively, instead of just focusing on the champion and her challenger of the month.
Tommaso Ciampa attacks Mustafa Ali after handicap match, The Bloodline appear on Raw, and Cody Rhodes crashes Seth Rollins’ party
The night kicked off with The Bloodline making their entrance as Roman Reigns, The Usos and Paul Heyman made a relatively rare appearance on Raw – but they barely got time to speak before , hitting Jimmy and Jey with RKOs.
Drew McIntyre joined the fray to confront the Tribal Chief, and it descended into a brawl previewing Sunday’s huge six-man tag match – a fine way to start the show.
A fun backstage segment led to the first match of the night, which saw Alpha Academy and Kevin Owens beat the Street Profits and Ezekiel in an entertaining clash involving six very talented stars.
After a pre-match interview with Byron Saxton, local wrestler Burt Hanson was Veer Mahaan’s victim of the week, getting utterly decimated in another strong showing for the intimidating powerhouse.
Edge cut a promo trashing the fans and AJ Styles before the latter came out to face the Rated R Superstar’s Judgement Day associate Damian Priest, with a win for the Phenomenal One meaning the Archer of Infamy won’t be allowed at ringside at WrestleMania Backlash.
It should be no surprise that Styles and Priest delivered a fantastic match here, with the former getting the win but immediately falling victim to a two-on-one attack until Finn Balor came out to make the save.
The stipulation – and Priest being banned from getting involved on Sunday – certainly leaves the door open to another name joining Judgement Day.
Mustafa Ali was the guest on Miz TV this week, but his mic kept cutting out before he stole the A-Lister’s and tore into the former WWE Champion, with both sides referencing earlier this year.
Theory joined the fun, leading to a handicap match as the United States Champion and The Miz made relatively quick work of Ali, who got laid out against by Ciampa after the bell to cement his first feud since returning.
The 24/7 Title scene rolled on this week, with Nikki A.S.H. getting the gold backstage, only for Dana Brooke to regain her championship in a brief match which led to Reggie going for a sneaky roll-up immediately after – which in turn saw Dana slap him and demand a divorce.
Seth Freakin’ Rollins came out to celebrate his own appreciation day’, but he soon turned his attention to Cody Rhodes before their rematch at WrestleMania Backlash.
The came out to interrupt, offering some congratulations but calling the Visionary delusional – which led to Seth insulting Cody and his late dad Dusty.
Rollins went on the attack but Rhodes was able to gain the upper hand.
After a backstage segment involving MVP, Cedric Alexander went out to face Bobby Lashley, with MVP and Omos watching on from the stage.
The All Mighty picked up the predictable win in a decent match, but didn’t get physical with the Colossus before this weekend’s premium live event.
WWE Raw airs Monday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
