He didn’t even make ’s 20-man squad for the opening weekend defeat to Brighton but Amad Diallo is keeping his head up at Old Trafford.
The 20-year-old joined the Red Devils in 2020 from Atlanta, in a move that could eventually be worth up to £36million.
However, the Ivorian has been starved of chances at Old Trafford and has made just nine appearances during his two years at the club.
Diallo impressed during a loan spell with Rangers last season but he returned to the club this summer in a bid to impress Ten Hag.
However, after scoring against Rayo Vallecano in the last friendly before the season kicked off, Diallo was at least hoping to form part of the squad against Brighton.
But the winger was left disappointed as he wasn’t even named on the bench for the visit of the Seagulls, despite injury to Anthony Martial.
After missing out on the game, Diallo was one of a number of first-team players that played in a 5-1 win against Halifax in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Monday.
The Ivorian took his chance to shine, scoring twice as United put in a fine performance.
Raphael Varane, James Garner and Eric Bailly also got on the scoresheet as players who didn’t feature against Brighton got a runout.
Despite lacking minutes, Cristiano Ronaldo did not play after featuring for just over half an hour against the Seagulls the day before.
But Diallo did his chances of first team minutes no harm by scoring a brace and the Ivorian will be hoping to feature in the squad against Brentford next weekend.
