Feyenoord boss Arne Slot has revealed why he turned down the chance to become ’s new manager.
Slot emerged as one of the leading candidates to succeed , with Daniel Levy making a lucrative approach to lure the Dutchman to north London.
However, and last week penned a new deal that will keep him at the club until 2026.
Spurs, who also need to hire a new sporting director, have now gone back to the drawing board and reportedly turned their attention to Celtic’s Ange Postecoglou.
The chance to manage a big team is usually too good to turn down, even if that the club is in a state of crisis like Tottenham, but Slot has explained his reasonings.
He told that the opportunity to coach in the and his enjoyment of working at Feyenoord outweighed any desire to take a job at more high-profile side.
‘We are going to play in the Champions League, which I’ve never done before as a player and as a coach.
‘The club is in a real good place. And I want to work longer on the project to see what comes from that, because you can every time leave somewhere after one or two successful seasons but, in the end, where and what are you then?
‘So sometimes you also have to cherish what you have. There’s more to life and to football than only winning a prize.
‘It is also the way you work. It’s not always that you come into the place where you can work like we can here and be happy, professional-wise but also family-wise.’
Slot took over Feyenoord in 2021, reaching the Europa Conference League final in his first season and winning Eredivisie in style in the last campaign, losing just two games in the process.
Conversely, Spurs have just endured an awful season on and off the pitch, finishing eighth in the table and missing out of European qualification for the first time since 2009.
