is hopeful avoided a serious injury after he hobbled off during the closing stages of ’s win over Fulham last night.
Quickfire first-half goals from and Armando Broja helped secure a morale-boosting win for the Blues who produced arguably their most accomplished performance of their new manager’s tenure so far.
British record signing Caicedo has struggled to replicate the form he displayed in a Brighton shirt since his move to Stamford Bridge but looked somewhere near his best in the Chelsea engine room last night alongside Enzo Fernandez and Conor Gallagher.
The gloss on a west London derby victory was, however, slightly diminished by the sight of Caicedo wincing during injury-time with a knock that forced his withdrawal.
Caicedo was reportedly seen wearing a protective strapping on his knee after the game but Pochettino is optimistic the Ecuador international will be available for selection against Burnley this weekend.
Asked for an update in his post match press conference, Pochettino said: ‘Caicedo was a contusion but also hopefully it’s nothing wrong. He was tired, but it was a contusion.’
The three points earned at Craven Cottage was only enough, meanwhile, to lift Chelsea up to 11th in the fledgling Premier League table but Pochettino hopes it will be enough to help build momentum ahead of a testing set of fixtures in October.
‘In football, you always need to be ready for everything,’ said Pochettino. ‘Now we are focusing to try and prepare the game sat which will be tough also.
‘It’s to keep working, give the players belief after two victories.. Keep designing the plan to provide them the best tools to perform and when you keep pushing and pushing you deserve what you wanted and so happy for the players.
‘Now ready for Saturday and to recover all the players and hopefully not a big issue. Then we can choose the best XI on Saturday to compete.’
