Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani has made an improved bid for , attempting to blow the competition out of the water with a huge ‘take it or leave it’ offer.
The Qatari billionaire is hoping that he can finally end the lengthy bidding process for the club, which has already been through three rounds, with the chief competition.
Ratcliffe may not have the spending power of the Qataris, but his best offer valued the club higher than his rivals, with the British billionaire not offering for 100 per cent of the club’s shares.
report that the latest bid from Sheikh Jassim is ‘significantly improved’ on , ‘although it is still thought to value United at a lower price than Ratcliffe.’
The attraction of the Qatari bid is that it is for complete control of Manchester United and the fee will be paid immediately, instantly wiping out the club’s debt.
There is also a promise from Sheikh Jassim that there will be meaningful investment in the playing squad and in either improving or rebuilding Old Trafford.
The bidding process might not be over yet as Ratcliffe, a boyhood Manchester United fan, could return with a new offer to react to the latest Qatari move.
The Mail’s report states that the British businessman could propose a deal that sees him take a 50 per cent share, leading to a gradual takeover which values the club at close to £6bn.
