Steven Gerrard is targeting an ambitious move for Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson as one of his marquee signings for Al-Ettifaq, according to reports.
The former Liverpool captain, who was sacked by last October, had initially rejected the chance to become the latest big name to join the Saudi Pro League as he said last month: ‘I was invited over there [Saudi Arabia] to look at a potential offer, which I did. But, as we stand right now, I won’t be taking that offer up.’
However, Gerrard has U-turned on his decision and .
According to , the Saudi club are already lining up two key signings for Gerrard as they are looking to land Henderson with a lucrative offer.
Henderson, who turns 34 later this month, still has two years remaining on his deal with Liverpool, but Jurgen Klopp has already bolstered his midfield with the signings of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai this summer.
The report also claims that Al-Ettifaq are lining up an offer for Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The former Arsenal forward struggled in his first season at Stamford Bridge and is now looking to leave the club this summer.
Chelsea are keen to get the 34-year-old off their wage bill and could even allow him to leave on a free transfer.
Al-Ettifaq, meanhwile, finished seventh in the 16-team Saudi Pro League last season and are not one of the four sides controlled by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, who are investing heavily this summer.
