decided against signing captain because of the forward’s wage demands, rather than the transfer fee needed to sign the 30-year-old.

The striker completed a £100million move to in August to end his time at Tottenham.

United had been heavily linked with a move for Kane, and their interest in the striker stems back as far as 2016.

With one year left on his deal, it became clear that Kane was likely to leave Tottenham and that the decision to do so was finally in his hands.

Though Daniel Levy would likely have demanded more from a Premier League club to sign Kane, the striker had more influence on his future than he did in 2021 when he attempted to exit north London.

If he wanted to remain in the Premier League, he could have done so and a move to Germany came as a surprise.

But United’s decision not to join the race for Kane was not down to any lack of motivation to pay the £100m asking price.

Instead, the Daily Mail say it was Kane’s wage demands that put the club off.

Kane is said to be on around £400,000-a-week in Munich, making him the highest paid player in Germany.

United have offloaded top earners such as David De Gea and Cristiano Ronaldo in the last 12 months, and they were reluctant to give a 30-year-old such a high salary.

Instead, United signed 20-year-old Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta.

The Dane is believed to earn around £50,000-a-week.
