Addressing her exciting return to hit sci-fi, the Avatar: The Way of Water actress, 60, said: ‘I’m beyond thrilled to return to my ‘Star Trek’ family and to the role I’ve loved for so long.Â
‘Section 31 has been near and dear to my heart since I began the journey of playing Philippa all the way back when this new golden age of ‘Star Trek’ launched.’
She continued: ‘To see her finally get her moment is a dream come true in a year that’s shown me the incredible power of never giving up on your dreams. We can’t wait to share what’s in store for you, and until then: live long and prosper (unless Emperor Georgiou decrees otherwise)!’
Fans were buzzing over the surprise announcement, with one excited viewer declaring: ‘Mother has returned.’

Speaking to  podcast, Discovery showrunner Alex Kurtzman offered an update on the spin-offs schedule.
‘Michelle has shattered ceilings, broken boundaries, and astonished us with her grace and gravitas for decades,’ he said.

Michelle recently reigned supreme as she became the first Asian actress to scoop the gong for her performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once, and  Michelle Williams, Cate Blanchett, Andrea Riseborough and Ana de Armas.
Section 31Â will start production will later this year and will air on Paramount Plus.
