Reece James has sent a message to fans and is targeting more silverware after signing a new six-year deal at the club.

The 22-year-old right-back, who progressed through the Chelsea youth academy, has made 128 appearances for the Blues and has signed a contract extension until 2028.

James helped Chelsea win the 2020-21 and during his time in the academy he won two U18 Premier League titles and two FA Youth Cups.

But the England international wants to win more trophies as he sent a message to Blues supporters on Monday.

‘I am over the moon with my new contract and I’m thankful for the fans, the new ownership and everyone involved in the club,’ James told Chelsea’s website.

‘I cannot wait to see what the future holds, and I am sure we will have the chance of winning many trophies.

‘I grew up supporting this club and I’ve been here since I was a six-year-old. I put pen to paper on a new deal because this is the club I want to be at.

‘I’d like to say a special thanks to the fans, I am here to stay and we have a bright future ahead of us.’

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly added: ‘We are thrilled to give Reece a new long-term contract.

‘He is an outstanding player and a true Chelsea man, and we are all looking forward to watching him continue to flourish at Stamford Bridge.’

It has been a mixed start to the season for the west London club, who are sixth in the Premier League after their opening six games.

They started 2021-22 with a 1-0 win at Everton and a 2-2 draw at Tottenham before an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Leeds United.

The Blues appeared to turn a corner with a 2-1 victory over Leicester City – but then lost 2-1 at Southampton – before returning to winning ways with a 2-1 win over West Ham.

Chelsea are back in top-flight action on Saturday when they travel to face Fulham.
